Subscription downgrades at renewal

A subscription downgrade means reducing your subscription cost by switching to a lower-priced plan, reducing the number of users, shortening the billing cycle, or reducing the number of AI resolution packages.

Downgrades apply only at the next renewal date, so your current plan and limits remain active until the billing cycle ends.

Downgrades are scheduled and applied only at renewal. This prevents unused time credits and maintains consistent billing.

What counts as a downgrade?

A downgrade includes:

  • Switching to a lower-priced plan

  • Reducing the number of users (teammates)

  • Changing your billing cycle from a longer to a shorter term (annual → monthly)

  • Reducing the number of AI resolution packages

Extending your billing cycle (monthly → annual) is treated as an upgrade.

How subscription downgrades work

  1. Request a downgrade
Schedule the change in your subscription settings at any time.

  2. Review scheduled changes
The update appears in the Scheduled changes section.

  3. Keep your current setup
Your plan, users, and limits stay unchanged until renewal.

  4. Automatic change at renewal
The downgrade applies at the start of the next billing cycle.

You keep full access to your current subscription until renewal, and you can change or cancel scheduled downgrades at any time before they take effect.

How to manage AI resolution packages

AI agent resolutions measure how many customer conversations your AI agent successfully resolves. One AI agent resolution is counted when the AI agent answers at least one customer question in a conversation, even if the customer asks multiple questions.

AI resolution packages determine how many AI agent resolutions are included in your next billing cycle. You can add or reduce packages before renewal to control future AI agent usage and costs.

Where to check AI resolution usage

You can monitor AI resolution usage in two places in Text:

  • AI agent performance — check the AI resolution metric to see how many chats your AI agent resolved.

  • Subscription — view your current AI resolution usage and package limits at any time.

What happens when you exceed your AI resolution limit

If you exceed the AI resolution limit included in your subscription plan, the system automatically adds 50 more AI resolutions and charges you immediately, as outlined on our pricing page.

The refill is applied right away, so your AI agent continues working without interruption.

Extra AI resolution packages are carried over into the next billing cycle and added to your renewal package count.

How to change the number of AI resolution packages at renewal

You can adjust the number of AI resolution packages scheduled for your next billing cycle at any time before renewal. Any scheduled changes appear in the Scheduled changes section, where you can update or cancel them before renewal.

Text manage subscription page showing Growth plan pricing, AI resolution packages, and subscription cost summary.

Add more packages if you expect higher AI agent usage, or reduce packages to limit future charges. Extra packages purchased during the current billing cycle are included in the next renewal unless you change them.

Package reductions count as a subscription downgrade and apply only at the next renewal date. Your current AI resolution limits remain active until the end of the current billing cycle, so reducing packages does not affect your current billing cycle.

Frequently asked questions

  • Downgrades apply only at renewal to prevent unused-time credits and keep billing predictable. You continue using your current plan and features until the billing cycle ends, and the downgraded subscription starts automatically at renewal.

  • Yes. Removing users during the billing cycle does not generate credits. Removed users lose access to the app immediately, and the reduced user count applies in the next billing period. We recommend removing users at the very end of the billing cycle.

  • Upgrades apply immediately. Any change to your subscription cancels pending changes, including a scheduled downgrade. You’ll need to schedule the downgrade again after making the upgrade.

  • A subscription downgrade takes effect at the start of your next billing cycle. Until then, your current plan, pricing, and limits remain unchanged.

  • Yes. You can adjust the number of AI resolution packages before renewal. Changes apply at the next billing cycle. If you exceed your limit, additional packages are automatically added and included at renewal.

  • To cancel your subscription, contact our support team. Start a chat in the bottom-right corner of this page or email support@text.com. Our team will guide you through the process.

What’s next?

Go to Settings → Billing → Subscription in Text to review your current plan, billing cycle, renewal date, and included features.

From there, you can update your subscription to match your current needs. This includes changing the number of users, reviewing scheduled downgrades, and checking upcoming charges.

If you use AI agents, you can manage your AI resolution packages to control usage and future costs. Add more packages before renewal if you expect higher usage, or reduce the scheduled number to limit charges in the next billing cycle.

The AI agent performance report includes the AI resolution metric, which shows the total number of chats resolved by your AI agent.
